Ruby on Rails and Javascript Developer - oDesk

Hi there,

I’m looking for a fun and talented Ruby on Rails developer to work part-time on several projects. I run Storemapper (http://ift.tt/1bMxR8V), a bootstrapped Ruby on Rails app that helps the customers of nearly 1,000 ecommerce brands find where to buy their products in local stores.

I also run a small freelance consultancy focused on ecommerce development so there will be opportunities to work on projects for bigger brands.

More about the company and our journey here:

http://ift.tt/1DlAnht

I have a backlog of projects, which can be done on a reasonable timeline. I am the lead developer on all the projects so you’ll on get specs and requirements from someone who knows what they’re talking about.

Here are some examples of small projects on deck:

* Add Google Docs Oauth to create spreadsheets for users automatically

* Diagnose and refactoring slow database queries using New Relic

* Improve test suite with Rspec and Capybara

* Build a small standalone app to sync inventory between two platforms via REST API

* Configure an app, on Rails on Heroku, to send a weekly status report to admins

This job is remote and part-time. Currently targeting 60-80 hours/month with the possibility of increasing over time.

Requirements:

* Solid Ruby on Rails experience including testing frameworks

* Good Javascript experience. Familiarity with Backbone.js and Angular.js are helpful but not required.

* Some other tools we use a lot which it would be great if you know a little about: Git/Github, Grunt, Pow, Intercom, Shopify API

* Good communication skills, comfort using task managers (Asana & Slack) rather than sending a billion emails

* Good written English is fine. Spoken English is great but not required.

* An understanding that Done is better than Perfect. We write good code, but if you can’t change a single feature without writing another 40 tests and refactoring 200 lines of code for clarity then we probably won’t work well together.

* Good sense of humor. This is a fun and pretty low-stress environment. Liberal use of emoji is encouraged ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How to apply:

1) Write me something.

2) Send links! Anything you can point to that shows your work in action is great: past projects, Github, personal blog

3) I’ll do a quick round of interviews and then offer a paid test project.
