A territory manager is responsible for improving revenue and developing sales methods for a geographical area. The territory can be as specific as a city or as broad as a group of states. The territory manager gets involved with the marketing, logistics, and sales departments to determine how to better grow revenue for his/her territory. A territory manager may need to improve customer service relations between the company and customers; develop a sales and marketing plan for a territory; monitor costs and make changes to operations to improve profits; and develop effective ways to market services into a territory.
A candidate must develop strong relationships with all of a customer's decision makers; learn the way that customers do business; develop an understanding of how customers interact in the marketplace; know how the competition relates to customers; and find ways to maintain productive relationships with each customer.
