Attention to detail, organizational skills, interpretation skills (not only interpreting information in the files but interpreting the regulatory requirements themselves and understanding the overall objective of the regulator. A lot of it is not really checkbox but more principles based.) and good communication skills (both written and verbal).
Also because things tend to change quite frequently, someone flexible and who can adjust to change quickly.
I would also suggest that it may be good to have someone familiar with or knowledgeable in the products we deal with. which is financial services in the UK
